As an executive, you
work hard. Your life revolves around your job. It pays
the bills and helps you live comfortably. But what if it
just doesn't excite you as much as it once did? This
is a common problem that many executives face and one
that executive coaching can help you resolve.
Why did you choose your job? Was it the job security
or the benefits? Or perhaps there was a time when you
loved your job, but things have changed. Your original
motive doesn't matter anymore.
What does is that you need a new way to think about
your job. You need to love your job again. Here are some
executive coaching tips:
Soul search. When it comes time to making a
career or job change, you want to understand what is
best for you. If you aren't quite sure, try reading some
books on the subject. You can also take personality
tests and quizzes in an attempt to understand. If you
understand yourself and your likes and dislikes, you are
more apt to make great choices.
Assess your current job. What is it about your
current job that you don't like? Is it the hours? Is it
your career field? Spend some time to make sure you list
everything. This will help you decide if it is your
career choice that you don't like, or just your current
job. Other factors that could make your dissatisfied
include your boss, commute, and work load.
Consider self employment. This is an important
question to consider. Self employment has many rewards.
Sometimes people who aren't satisfied with their jobs
find their peace when working for themselves. Yes, it is
hard work. But if you are doing something you enjoy, the
extra work is worth it.
Find your passions. Do you have any dreams?
What about hobbies? You can turn things that you are
passionate about into a worthwhile career. People who
love to cook can consider a career as a chef. If you
love to paint, you can pursue it full time. Choose a
goal and just go for it.
Hiring an
executive coach can help you implement many of these
ideas.
Learn skills. To achieve your dreams, keep in
mind that you'll need to learn the required skills. If
you want to go into business for yourself, you'll need
to learn skills such as marketing and bookkeeping. If
you want to become a chef, you'll need to go to culinary
school or get some practical experience as a chef. You
can learn new skills through books, classes, or by going
back to school.
Don't give up. This is the most important
piece of advice of all. Send out your resume. Work hard.
Know that rejection may come your way. Just don't give
up. If you want to change your life, you need to take
risks. Keep trying until you succeed.
